Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Anatoly Rubinov, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, in Saint-Petersburg on Monday.
The Parties discussed political situation in Ukraine and Belarus.
V.Lytvyn recommends that both states should pay close attention to activization of Ukrainian-Belarusian cooperation, focusing on practical collaboration in the sectors of mutual interest.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that Ukrainian Parliament supports pragmatic aspect of bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Belarus. He invited the parliamentary delegation of Belarus to make an official visit to Ukraine.
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament attaches great importance to the Inter-Parliamentary Panel which tackles economic, inter-regional, humanitarian and social issues. V.Lytvyn deems necessary to focus on the organization and control over the realization of commitments.
In his turn, A.Rubinov stressed, "We are fraternal nations. It is essential to preserve values, friendship and goal-oriented cooperation. Our states should follow the beneficial course of development, rejecting the minor issues, singling out the principal matters, and striving towards the future on the basis on constructive cooperation and mutually beneficial relations."
V.Lytvyn stated that Ukraine was implementing the Common Action Plan on Priority Areas of Ukrainian-Belarusian Cooperation ("Road Map" signed in Homel in May 2010). Implementation of the Action Plan will support comprehensive development of the transport corridor crossing the territories of both states.
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament also informed about the forthcoming settlement of the key bilateral issues, such as the contractual regulation of state border. V.Lytvyn looks forward to exchanging the ratification instruments on enactment of the Agreement on State Border between Ukraine and Belarus.
V.Lytvyn called for extending bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian and educational sector.
As reported, on May 15-16, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stays with a working visit in Saint-Petersburg to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, International Scientific Conference dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Nuremberg Trials, IV Environmental Congress and events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of T.H. Shevchenko's reburial.
